Summary The pattern of the vascular supply to the choroid of the frog eye was studied in toto with the use of the injection-replication-SEM technique. The choroid of anuran amphibians is composed mainly of the choriocapillaris. In both species studied (Rana temporaria, Rana esculenta), an independent arterial supply to the choriocapillaris supplemented that from the ciliary arteries. This additional vascular route arises from the optic artery, a separate branch of the arteria infundibularis superficialis. The optic artery, accompanied by its vein within the vascular sheath of the optic nerve, joins the rich arterial capillary network of the choriocapillaris and supplies the posterior pole of the ocular bulb. The superficial capillary network displays a dense collar around the entrance of the optic nerve into the eye and is composed of a circular meshwork of small capillaries, several layers deep. More peripherally, however, it becomes single layered. This capillary network, as a whole, establishes numerous connections with the adjacent choriocapillaris at the posterior pole of the ocular bulb. In anuran amphibians the complex arrangement of both arterial systems supporting the choriocapillaris may be regarded as a more complete equivalent of the short posterior ciliary arteries of mammals.  相似文献

Summary The presence of neurofilament (NF)-like and glial fibrillary acidic protein (GFAP)-like immunoreactivities was studied in sympathetic ganglia of adult rats and guinea pigs during normal conditions and after perturbation. In the superior cervical ganglion (SCG) of normal rats, many ganglion cells and nerve fibers show NF immunoreactivity. Some of these nerve fibers disappear after preganglionic decentralization of SCG; this indicates the presence of a mixture of preand postganglionic NF-positive nerves in the ganglion. Cuts in both preand postganglionic nerves result in a marked increase in GFAP immunoreactivity in SCG, whereas NF immunoreactivity increases in nerve cell bodies after preganglionic cuts. Only a few ganglion cells show NF immunoreactivity in the normal SCG of guinea pig. All intraganglionic NF-positive nerves are of preganglionic origin; decentralization abolishes NF immunoreactivity in these nerve fibers. The inferior mesenteric ganglion, the hypogastric nerves and colonic nerves in guinea pigs contain large numbers of strongly NF-immunoreactive nerve fibers.When the SCG of adult rat is grafted to the anterior eye chamber of adult rat recipients, both ganglionic cell bodies and nerve fibers, forming on the host iris from the grafted ganglion, are NF-positive. As only the perikarya of these neurons normally exhibit NF immunoreactivity, and the terminal iris arborizations are NF-negative, it appears that the grafting procedure causes NF immunoreactivity to become more widespread in growing SCG neurons.  相似文献

Summary The angioarchitecture of the superficial vascular hyaloid system (membrana vasculosa retinae) of the frog eye was studied by means of scanning electron microscopy of vascular corrosion casts. The terminal vessels form a single-layered sheath intimately adjacent to the vitreal side of the avascular retina. The hyaloid system is subdivided by the ventral venous trunk into three central areas: the dorsal, the temporo-ventral, and the naso-ventral area. Toward the ora serrata, the hyaloid system is bordered by an arterial ring, and by nasal and temporal venous branches forming more or less complete hemicircles. A vascular zone composed of several tongue-like sectors establishes an inter-connection between the peripheral vascular rings and the central areas of the fundus. The arterial blood is supplied from the arterial ring. The drainage of the hyaloid system is provided via two routes: (1) the Y-shaped ventral trunk collects blood from the central areas, (2) the two peripheral venous branches drain the tongue-like sectors. The vessels within the dorsal area follow preferentially a dorso-ventral meridional direction. This densely capillarized territory corresponds in localization to the area centralis retinae. The ultrastructure of microvessels of the hyaloid system is characterized by features typical for capillaries of the central nervous system.  相似文献

Summary The malE and malK genes from Salmonella typhimurium, and the MalEFG operon and a portion of malK from Enterobacter aerogenes were cloned and sequenced. Plasmid-borne malE genes from both species and the malF and malG genes from E. aerogenes were expressed normally in Escherichia coli, and their products function in maltose transport. This shows that the malB products from the three species are interchangeable, at least in the combinations tested. The general genetic organization of the malB region is conserved. Potential binding sites and distances between them are highly conserved in the regulatory intervals. An unexpected conserved region was detected, which we call the U box, and which could be another target for a regulatory protein. This hypothesis is supported by the presence of the U box in the regulatory, region of the pulA-malX operon in Klebsiella pneumoniae. The intergenic region between malE and malF from S. typhimurium and E. aerogenes, contains inverted repeats similar to the palindromic units (PU or REP) found at the same location in E. coli. The predicted amino acid sequence of the encoded proteins showed 90% or more identity in every pairwise comparison of species.  相似文献

Fungal immigration to apple leaves in the field was altered by the introduction of populations ofChaetomium globosum orAureobasidium pullulans to surface-disinfested leaves either immediately following, or 6 days after, disinfestation. Total numbers of fungal individuals and numbers of filamentous fungal and yeast individuals were estimated and compared over time for 4–7 weeks on control leaves (leaves disinfested but no populations applied), onAureobasidium-treated, and onChaetomium-treated leaves. Fungal communities developing on leaves during three experiments in two different time frames (experiment 1: July 9–August 27; experiments 2 and 3: July 29–August 27), and thus under different immigration regimes, were also compared. Survival of introduced populations was not related to the presence of prior fungal immigrants. Rates of increase in total numbers of fungi and numbers of filamentous fungi and yeasts per leaf varied among experiments, apparently in relation to differences in immigration and environmental history. Differences among leaves in immigration had a short-term (days) influence on community size. However, no long-term effects of altered immigration on phylloplane fungal community size were evident.  相似文献

DNA fragments d(TATATATA) and d(TATATA) were studied in low-salt aqueous solutions and found to coexist in more than one conformer. 1H-n.m.r. demonstrates that single-stranded and double-stranded states are involved in the conformational coexistence. Circular dichroism spectroscopy indicates a global B-DNA stacking of bases in the fragments. 31P-n.m.r. resonances of the TpA and ApT phosphodiester bonds are substantially separated in the spectra of both d(TATATATA) and d(TATATA) duplexes to suggest an alternating architecture of their backbones. In fact, the oligonucleotide duplexes are much more alternating than the corresponding polynucleotide under the same solution conditions. The alternating character of the d(TATATATA) double helix is further enhanced in molar caesium fluoride solutions. The oligonucleotide isomerization into X-DNA is, however, accompanied by gel formation, which makes high resolution n.m.r. measurements impossible.  相似文献

Behavioral effects of somatostatin-14, and some of its fragments [somatostatin(3–8), somatostatin(9–14), somatostatin(7–10)] after intracerebroventricular (ICV) administration have been investigated in male rats. In a passive avoidance learning test, somatostatin-14 (0.6 nM) given immediately after the learning session increased the avoidance latency at 24 hr after the injection, when compared to a somatostatin(3–8) (0.6 nM)-treated group. However, compared to a saline-treated group, the peptides did not significantly influence the avoidance latency. Somatostatin-14 administered in higher dose (6.0 nM) decreased the avoidance latency compared to the saline-treated group, while its fragments did not influence it. In an open field behavioral test, immediately after the 24-hr passive avoidance test, 6 nM of somatostatin-14 decreased the rearing activity, while the fragments did not influence this behavior. Somatostatin-14 produced barrel rotation in a dose-related manner, but after the injection of a high dose of the peptide (12 nM) all of the animals died in cardiorespiratory failure (apnea, pulmonary oedema). The authors investigated the effects of (+) cyanidanol-3-(Catergen) in vitro on the activities of rat brain plasma membrane and microsomal Na+-K+-ATP-ase and Mg++-ATP-ase, in the presence and absence of ascorbic acid. Due to lipid peroxidation induced by low concentration of ascorbid acid, activity of both ATP-ase decreased. (+) cyanidanol-3 proved to be an effective antioxidant in this system. It inhibited the decrease of ATP-ase activity which occurred as a result of lipid peroxidation promoted by ascorbic acid.  相似文献
